Dussehra Festival is the most enthusiastically and vibrantly celebrated festival of the Kullu valley and. The festival is celebrated in the month of October and celebrations take place for a week. Unlike celebration of Dussehra in all the other parts of India, this celebration starts on the day of “Vijaya Dashmi”, a day that marks the victory of good over the bad. On this day, the demon king was killed by Lord Rama. Dussehra Celebration in Kullu started during the rule of Raja Jagat Singh who was the ruler of Kullu during the period 1637-1672. The celebration of Dussehra in Kullu has a story associated with it. Once the kind was informed that a Brahmin, Durga Dutt, living in the nearby village Tipri, have many beautiful pearls with him. The king instructed the courtiers to get the pearls from Durga Dutt. Durga Dutt tried to convince the kind that he does not possess any pearl but king paid no heed to him. The courtiers harassed the Brahmin too much and it became unbearable for him. When the torture crossed the limit, Brahmin locked all his family members along with him in a room. The entire house was set on fire. All this was done when the king came to the village in order to collect the pearls. Durga Dutt cursed the king in front of the fire and the entire family turned into ashes in front of the king. After few years, the king got seriously ill and he realized that he had done a sin by torturing the family of Durga Dutt and becoming the cause of their death. He could eat food because he got to see worms instead of food. Every time he wanted to drink something he thought it to be blood. None of the doctors could do anything to cure the king. He then went to Pahari Baba (Kishan Bairagi) to get rid of this situation. Babaji advised him to take shelter of Lord Rama and seek his blessings. He advised the king to drink charanamrit of Lord Raghunathji and king had sent another sadhak named Damodar Das to get an idol from Ayodhya. With his magical powers, Damodar Dasji got the idol of Lord Rama from the temple “Tretnath” of Ayodhya in the year 1651 and a temple was built to install this temple in Sultanpur in Kullu. After drinking the charanamrit of Lord Rama, the king got rid of his illness and since then Lord Raghunathji became the main deity of Kullu Valley. Celebration of Dussehra in Kullu was started since then. 1st day of Dussehra The celebration of Dussehra starts on the day of Vijayadashmi and it falls in the month of October (Ashwin month according to the Hindu calendar). Manimahesh Yatra 2022- Kailash Parvat- Lord Shiva abode- Sacred Bath in the Lake - Bharmour, Chamba

Hi, lets take a sacred hike to a place that is worshipped by hindus. It is Manimahesh.
We hike from Gaurikund to the Manimahesh Tirth Lake The Manimahesh Yatra is a sacred pilgrimage to the foot of the Manimahesh Kailas located in the Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh. Manimahesh is supposed to have been created by Shiva after his marriage to Parvati. The name Manimahesh signifies the crystal/gem that sits on top of Shiva’s (Mahesh) head. No one has ever been able to reach the summit of Manimahesh and it remains a mystery to human eyes. Declared as a state-level pilgrimage by the government, the site is dedicated to Hindu God Lord Shiva and is considered the abode of the Hindu God. The journey commences on the day of Janmashtami and ends on the day of Radha Ashtami. Not just pilgrims, this trek is attended by trekkers, nature lovers and mountain walkers from all over the world. Known to be one of the most beautiful treks in the world, the route boasts of sweeping panoramic vistas as the mountain peak is a virgin peak. The Yatra purifies one’s soul and body. A procession known as “holy Chhari” accompanies the yatra wherein pilgrims and sadhus carry holy sticks on their shoulders. The Chhari trek proceeds with the accompaniments of music and hymns in praise of Lord Shiva. The trek starts from the village of Hadsar that is a small distance away from Chamba district in Himachal Pradesh. From Hadsar, the route leads to the hill village of Dancho. This trek can be undertaken even by amateur climbers as the slope is gradual and not very difficult. Here you can also find beautiful views of the Valley of Flowers and short bushy shrubs that have medicinal values. Manimahesh Lake is supposed to be the abode of the Hindu God Lord Shiva. It is believed that while Lord Shiva was performing penance here, a stream of water gushed out from his matted hair and took the shape of the lake. The lake, which is shaped like a saucer, has two different parts. The larger part is called ‘Shiv Karotri’ and has icy cold water. Devotees believe that Lord Shiva used to take bath here. The other, smaller part, is situated at a small distance and has comparatively less chilly and lukewarm water which is called ‘Gauri Kund’. Women are supposed to take a dip in the Gauri Kund. On the periphery of the lake is also situated a large marble image of Lord Shiva called Chaumukha that is worshipped by the pilgrims. There is also a small temple that is presided by Lakshmi Devi. The nearest airport is in Gaggal in Kangra which is at a distance of 170 km. Nearest railway station is in Pathankot in Punjab. From both these places, and also from neighbouring cities and towns, regular bus services are available that ply to and fro to Chamba. From Chamba, there are local buses and jeep services available that can take you to Bharmour.
